The Campaign is an effort by a group of public- and private-sector interests who agree that Vermont is in the midst of a severe housing shortage, and that it is important for our people and our state as a whole to provide more housing opportunities for all Vermonters.

We know this housing shortage-particularly moderate-priced housing most Vermonters need and can afford-affects people in nearly every part of our state, and at nearly every income level. We know this shortage drives up the costs of rents and home prices, making it harder for our people to afford to keep a roof over their heads while still paying for other necessities. At the same time, this shortage hurts our state's economy.

We know Vermonters who need housing come from all walks of life. Your local police officer, the nurse at your health clinic, the clerk at your grocery store, the elderly woman down the street, the couple you see pushing a stroller, any or all of these people could be struggling to pay for safe, decent housing.

We know this shortage forces some Vermonters to make long commutes to their jobs, because they cannot afford to live in the same communities where they work.

We know this shortage forces too many Vermonters to live in overcrowded or substandard housing.

We know that developing more housing, and doing so in a way that respects our state's environment and the character of our communities, offers many benefits. When we create a variety of housing in our downtowns, our residential neighborhoods, our village centers, we create opportunities for people to live near businesses, schools, and recreational and cultural activities.

And we know investing in housing has economic benefits.

That's why we have joined in this effort, because housing is the foundation of Vermont's communities.

Streaming audio instructions
To listen to our streaming audio you need:

  1. Software that supports the streaming MP3 format
  2. A 56kbps or faster Internet connection

There are many applications that support streaming MP3s; the most common is Real.com's RealPlayer. The basic player is free to download. When installing it, if given the option, associate the player with the .m3u extension.

If you already have the latest version of RealPlayer installed on your system — or some other application that can handle streaming MP3s — and are still having troubles starting the stream, check your browser's helper application list to make sure the streaming MP3-capable application is associated with the .m3u extension. This is crucial: This way, when your browser encounters an .m3u file, it'll launch the app to play the stream.
