NEW HOUSING CAMPAIGN HITS THE AIRWAVES
Governor Dean, Senators Leahy and Jeffords, featured on advertisements

BURLINGTON — The Vermont Housing Awareness Campaign has begun airing radio ads highlighting Vermont's serious housing shortage.

The ads, which are running on 12 radio stations around Vermont, feature Senator Patrick Leahy, Senator James Jeffords and Governor Howard Dean.

"Vermont has a serious housing shortage right now," the ads say. "Thousands of Vermonters are having a tough time finding a place to live that they can afford, and a lot of people have to make long commutes, because they can't afford to live where they work. Vermont has an opportunity to set an example for how to fix this problem the right way."

The ads can also be heard at the Awareness Campaign's website, www.housingawareness.org.

The ads are the first to be run by the Awareness Campaign, a coalition of public- and private-sector groups aimed at creating more housing opportunities for all Vermonters. Twenty-two organizations, including banks, business groups, housing advocates, environmentalists, and state agencies, are members of the Campaign.

The Campaign plans more advertising, hosting public events and other forms of outreach with the goal of building support for more housing construction in Vermont through public education.

Streaming audio instructions
To listen to our streaming audio you need:

  1. Software that supports the streaming MP3 format
  2. A 56kbps or faster Internet connection

There are many applications that support streaming MP3s; the most common is Real.com's RealPlayer. The basic player is free to download. When installing it, if given the option, associate the player with the .m3u extension.

If you already have the latest version of RealPlayer installed on your system — or some other application that can handle streaming MP3s — and are still having troubles starting the stream, check your browser's helper application list to make sure the streaming MP3-capable application is associated with the .m3u extension. This is crucial: This way, when your browser encounters an .m3u file, it'll launch the app to play the stream.
